About the Artwork
The piece shown here is an example of this kind of custom commission, hand-painted with a double-sided identical painting technique. Both sides feature close-up portraits of classic Dharma protectors. It is fitted with an exquisitely crafted gau box for portable wear, suitable for art appreciation, collection, and styling decoration.
Created in accordance with traditional thangka painting techniques, the work has a bright yellow background, and the wrathful countenance of the Dharma protector is depicted with great intensity. Thick, black eyebrows arch upward; the eyes are wide open with vivid bright blue pupils. The bridge of the nose features powerful lines, the lips are rich in colour, and the brushstrokes for the jaw whiskers are crisp. Fine gold lines delineate the facial ornaments with distinct layered contours. The overall composition is minimalist and focused, delivering strong visual impact. Painted in mirrored symmetry on both sides with neat and delicate brushwork, it uses natural mineral pigments for bright and long-lasting colours.
Every commission is fully hand-painted by Regong artists. Slight variations in brushwork among individual works are normal characteristics of handcrafted artworks.
