Six-Armed Mahakala, known as Gonpo in Tibetan, is a major guardian deity of Tibetan Buddhism and a wrathful emanation of Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva.
He has a pure white body with one face and six arms, and three wide-open eyes. Wearing a crown of five skulls, clad in elephant hide and a tiger-skin skirt around his waist, he holds various ritual implements including a crescent knife, precious gem, hand drum, kapala, trident and lasso. He subdues demons and removes obstacles, safeguards the Dharma and augments wealth. He is the principal guardian enshrined by the Kagyu School.
